Shri Shyam Sunder Gupta is an officer of 1991 Batch of Indian Railway Traffic Services.

Shri Shyam Sunder Gupta joined the Railway Board as Principal Executive Director (Infrastructure) in February, 2026. Before joining the Railway Board, Shri Gupta held the post of Principal Chief Operations Manager, Central Railway.

Shri Gupta has key insights into logistics requirement of coal, cement, steel, agro products. He has been keenly involved in decision and operations of mass transportation systems like Mumbai suburban which is the lifeline of Mumabi.

Logistics and transportation in general and rail and port based transportation in particular is key area of interest.

While working on Central Railway, Shri Gupta was associated with several railway infrastructure and capacity augmentation works worth more than Rs.63,000 crore. He was instrumental in the preparation of the Pune Nagpur and Mumbai area decongestion plans to improve operational efficiency across busiest railway hubs of Maharashtra.

He has served at many key assignments including Divisional Railway Manager, Raipur, Chief Public Relations officer, Western Railway, Mumbai. He has also served on the Boards of Kandla Port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Mumbai Port and Western Coal Field Ltd.

Shri Gupta has done B.Tech and M.Tech (Electrical Engineering) from IIT Kanpur. He also holds MBA degree from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.
